Bed sizes are one of those things everyone thinks they know until they are ordering a mattress. Here are the standard UK sizes, and how to pick one for your room.
Standard UK bed sizes
| Size | Mattress (cm) | Feet and inches |
|---|---|---|
| Small single | 75 x 190 | 2ft 6in x 6ft 3in |
| Single | 90 x 190 | 3ft x 6ft 3in |
| Small double | 120 x 190 | 4ft x 6ft 3in |
| Double | 135 x 190 | 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in |
| King | 150 x 200 | 5ft x 6ft 6in |
| Super king | 180 x 200 | 6ft x 6ft 6in |
These are mattress sizes. The bed itself is a bit bigger, especially with a headboard or a chunky frame.
Picking the right size for your room
- Leave about 60 cm to walk around the sides and foot of the bed.
- Check that wardrobe doors and drawers can still open.
- For two people, a double is snug. A king gives you each more room.
- Taller than about 6 foot? A king or super king is 10 cm longer.
